AUSTRALIAN CHIROPRACTOR BROTHERS ARRESTED IN JAKARTA FOR RUNNING ILLEGAL CLINIC

Two Australian brothers who run a chain of chiropractic clinics in Indonesia have been arrested for allegedly working illegally.

He said the brothers, who had opened five Chiropractic Indonesia clinics in Jakarta, could face up to five years in jail.

The clinics, most of which were in upmarket shopping malls, have been closed.

Senior Commissioner Krishna said the men could be detained for up to 20 days at Jakarta police station - with the option of an extension -before they are handed over to the Jakarta prosecutor's office.

Police have cracked down on chiropractic clinics in Indonesia following the death of Jakarta woman Allya Siska Nadya in August last year.

Ms Aliya died after she was treated for neck pain at an unrelated chiropractic clinic in Jakarta by American practitioner Randall Cafferty, who has since fled the country.

There is no suggestion any patients were harmed at Chiropractic Indonesia clinics.

On the Facebook page of Chiropractic Indonesia Pacific Place Clinic, dated January 7, Anthony Dawson, wrote that patients may have heard of "a death of a young lady that may or may not have been related to chiropractic care".

"Although she was not a patient in our clinic, our hearts go out to that family and we hope they find resolve."

Dawson, who police said was the director, wrote that the profession had been established since 1895 and was in all major countries. "We think that this incident is more related to an individual who should not have been practising anywhere in the world."

Dawson wrote that he encouraged patients to make sure their friends who went to other clinics had standards of the high level patients received from Chiropractic Indonesia.

"In Chiropractic Indonesia, our doctors are qualified with adequate experience, plus degrees and we have working permits to work in Indonesia."

Head of the law enforcement unit of the South Jakarta Immigration office Toto Suryanto said it appeared as though there was a problem with the work permit of Thomas Dawson.

"In the work permit it says he was a consultant. In reality he is also helping with giving services to the patient," Toto said.

Senior Commissioner Krishna said the Australian Federal Police had been contacted after the men were arrested.

"This afternoon AFP will come to see us. We have to coordinate with them, we want to get more information," he said.

Senior Commissioner Krishna said a taskforce was set up with Jakarta police and the Jakarta manpower, health and immigration ministries after Ms Aliya's death.

POLICE: CONNECTICUT CHIROPRACTOR ALLEGEDLY GAVE ELECTRIC SHOCKS TO EMPLOYEE FOR ‘RE-EDUCATION’

STRATFORD, Conn. (WFSB) — A Stratford doctor is now facing

assault charges after police said he allegedly gave one of his employees electric shocks to teach her a lesson.

The incident happened this past July at the Neuro-Spinal Center in Stratford, according to the police report.

The employee claimed that Doctor William DeAngelo had her lie down on a table, hooked her up to the electronic stim machine and intentionally shocked her. DeAngelo then continued to turn up the intensity of the shock unit until the employee was uncomfortable and started crying.

She also added that Dr. DeAngelo claimed that patients complained about her work and he had to teach her a lesson. The lesson was for her to feel the discomforts that she reportedly caused her patients.

DeAngelo referred to the incident as a “re-education” in the police report.

Eyewitness News visited the clinic, but Dr. DeAngelo was not around for comment.

The doctor was released on a promise to appear in court next week.

CHIROPRACTOR SENTENCED TO YEAR IN PRISON FOR FRAUD

ABlacklick chiropractor was sentenced to a year in prison and must pay $500,000 in restitution for fraudulently overbilling insurance companies and the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation.

Jeffrey R. Shope, 45, was a licensed chiropractor and owner of True Health Chiropractic in Westerville when he was overpaid $696,000 by billing for equipment and services not performed and billing two programs for identical services provided to the same patient, according to court documents.

Shope pleaded guilty to the charge in September. The fraud, which occurred from January 2009 to December 2012, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. U.S. District Court Judge Gregory L. Frost did not impose a fine in addition to the restitution when he sentenced Shope on Monday.

Shope's license to practice was still active but the Ohio State Chiropractic Board will consider disciplinary action after it receives certified court records of the sentence, board Executive Director Kelly Caudill said. The earliest that's likely to happen would be at the board's April 7 meeting.

The board suspended Shope's license in 1999 for a year. He was accused then of fraud, misleading advertising, falsifying patient records and fraudulent conduct while he worked at Westerville Health Care, at the same address as True Health, 2511 W. Schröck Rd. Shope was on probation for the charges until 2006, according to board records. Under a consent agreement with the board, a compliance officer monitored his office during that probation.

Once released from prison Shope will be on three years of supervised release.

According to court records, the Franklin County Court of Appeals last month upheld a trial judge's ruling allowing a lender to foreclose on Shope's Kemperwood Court home in Jefferson Township.
