Life University’s Dr. Rob Scott Co-Authors New Book Advocating for Complete American Healthcare System Overhaul
NEWS OF THE PROFESSION
A NEW BOOK RELEASED BY LIFE UNIVERsity Associate Vice President for Institutional Initiatives and former president Dr. Rob Scott, D.C., Ph.D., offers a critical examination of the U.S. healthcare crisis, arguing that the current system requires complete replacement rather than incremental reforms. The book, UNSALVAGEABLE: Why the American Healthcare System is Beyond Repair (and What is Needed to Replace It), is now available on Amazon in e-book, paperback and hardcover formats.
In UNSALVAGEABLE, Dr. Scott and co-author Rebecca Koch address fundamental American healthcare issues, including corporate greed, pharmaceutical industry influence, conflicts of interest between corporate entities and government agencies, and the impact of dark money and direct-to-consumer drug advertising. The authors argue these systemic flaws have transformed healthcare into a profit-driven "sick care" model that prioritizes financial returns over patient health and well-being.
The book's premise attempts to reform how the existing healthcare system has failed to produce significant improvements over the past 50 years. The authors contend corporate takeover of American healthcare has created a for-profit system focused on shareholder dividends and executive compensation rather than patient outcomes.
UNSALVAGEABLE presents how the current healthcare model is both unsustainable and beyond repair, advocating for a complete restructuring removing profit as the primary driver. It serves as a call to action for voters to reclaim control over health and healthcare through political reform.
“For decades, we’ve tried patching a system that is fundamentally broken,” Dr. Scott said. “UNSALVAGEABLE offers a vision for a system focused on better care, stronger outcomes and a healthier future for all Americans. This book is a blueprint to reimagine healthcare so every person can receive the care they deserve, without outside interests as the primary motivator.”
Dr. Scott, who served as Life University’s fifth president from 2017 to 2025, continues to advance the university’s global mission from its Marietta campus. He helps lead international initiatives and serves as vice president of the Alliance for Health Promotion, whose U.S. office is based at Life University.
